Delete your Voicebooks account
Last updated
In short
Email support@getvoicebooks.com from the address your Voicebooks account uses, with the words "delete my account". We remove the account, your family's recordings, and the photos and profiles that go with it within 30 days, and we email you when it is done.
This page is for Voicebooks, the app that lets families record themselves reading children's books aloud so a child can hear a parent's voice narrate a book they are holding. It explains how to have your account and the data attached to it deleted, what deletion removes, and the little we are obliged to keep.
How to request deletion
- Send an email to support@getvoicebooks.com.
- Send it from the email address your Voicebooks account uses. That is how we confirm the request is really yours. If you can't send from that address, say so and we will verify another way before deleting anything.
- Put "delete my account" in the subject or the body. If you only want part of your data gone, say which part — see below.
We answer every request, and we complete deletion within 30 days. You do not need an active subscription to ask, and we never charge for it.
What gets deleted
Deleting your account removes:
- Your account itself — your email address, your name, and your stored password hash.
- Every recording you made, including the audio files and the page timings that go with them.
- The listener profiles you created for the children in your family, and their photos.
- Your profile photo and your family's photo.
- The listening history recorded against your family, and the books your family added.
- Any device push-notification tokens registered to your account.
The underlying files are deleted from our cloud storage as part of this, not merely hidden.
Families with more than one grown-up
A family can have several adults in it. Deleting your account removes you and the recordings you made. It does not delete the other members' accounts or their recordings — each person asks for their own. If you are the last adult in a family, the family and everything in it goes with your account.
What we keep, and for how long
- Billing and tax records of payments already made — the law requires us to keep these, ordinarily for seven years. They are not used for anything else.
- Server logs containing IP addresses and request records, kept for a short period for security and abuse prevention, then discarded.
- Backups. Our backups roll over on their own schedule, so a copy of deleted data can persist in them for a short period after deletion before it is overwritten. It is not restored to the live service.
Subscriptions bought through Google Play are billed by Google, not by us. Deleting your Voicebooks account does not cancel a Play subscription — cancel that in your Google Play account, or it will keep renewing.
Deleting some of your data without deleting your account
You do not have to delete everything to delete something. Ask us in the same email and we will remove just the part you name — a single recording, a child's listener profile and its listening history, a photo, or a book your family added. Your account and the rest of your family's recordings stay as they are.
